In 2007, during a Nutrition and Dentistry symposium at the University of Washington, Dr. Boyd learned something that changed the course of his career: dental decay is a relatively new disease in human history. Initially skeptical, he soon discovered that anthropologists had known for decades that our ancestors rarely suffered from cavities—or even crooked teeth. That realization sparked both disbelief and determination, inspiring his lifelong pursuit to understand how modern diets and lifestyles have disrupted natural craniofacial development—and how restoring these foundations can transform lifelong health.
